The Art of Being Seen and Felt

Geborgenheit

For a long time, Geborgenheit—that warm, safe feeling—was something I didn’t even realize I was missing. Through kink though, I began to consciously create it for myself. At first, there was hesitation, even self-doubt, but what I found there changed me profoundly. It was healing, grounding, and it gave me a sense of wholeness I hadn’t known before.

This journey has shaped my work as a photographer. My Intimacy Photography is about creating a space where people can simply be. To be seen, to be accepted, and to express themselves freely.

In German, the word Geborgenheit encapsulates a deeply rooted sense of emotional safety, warmth, and belonging. It’s about feeling completely accepted and protected—a nurturing space where we can connect with ourselves and with others. This is the heart of my work: to reflect this feeling of Geborgenheit in every image I take.

The idea for this project was born during the stillness of the pandemic, a time when many of us were forced to pause and reflect. I realized that creativity needed space to breathe, and for me, that space came in the form of photography. In 2023, I began capturing people in the places where they feel most at home—on their sofas, in their beds, or in the quiet corners of their lives. These are the settings where we laugh, cry, love, dream, and sometimes hide from the world.

Before each session, I take time to get to know the person I’m photographing. Their stories, their energy, and their vulnerabilities become part of the process. This isn’t just about taking beautiful pictures; it’s about holding space for their authenticity.

Through this lens, I’ve seen how intimacy and kink are not separate from our everyday lives, but part of their richness. It’s the moment when your hands are bound, yet you feel freer than ever. A whispered word of affirmation, a grounding touch after intensity, or the laughter that echoes into the depths of your being, transforming what was once dark into something profoundly human and beautiful.

Sometimes, Geborgenheit comes in the unexpected—the lighthearted pauses between breaths, the playful moments of connection, or the courage to explore parts of ourselves we once kept hidden.

This project is an invitation. To pause. To reflect. To embrace those tender, quiet moments where we feel most at home—with ourselves and with others. Because we all deserve to feel seen, celebrated, and connected. You are not alone. You are worthy. And you are extraordinary.

Grateful to all the wonderful individuals involved. I’m honored to mention Yelloww the dog (first image) and Madame Vera (third image) for their contribution.

And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.
